Twin Upholstered Headboard – Upholstered headboards add a cozy and elegant feel to a room and make the bed a more cozy place to curl up with a good book. If you have researched the purchase of an upholstered headboard, you have realized that the price of a nice upholstered headboard can be prohibitive. Making a do-it-yourself style headboard upholstered is not only much cheaper than buying one, it also gives you the freedom to customize it to your décor.
Trim the ends of the 36-inch and 56-inch lumber at a 45-degree angle. Next, form the planks in a rectangular frame for the start of a double bed size twin upholstered headboard. The angled ends of the planks mate to form 90-degree corners. Or use a frame purchased in the store, such as those used by artists for canvas paintings, if available. Drive a wood screw through each corner to fix the frame together.
Next, place the sheet of plywood over the top of the frame and nail it in place with finishing nails around the perimeter of the plywood in the frame. Unroll foam batting so that it is flat on the work surface. Next, place the twin upholstered headboard frame on the side of the plywood down on top of the batting. Pull the batting along the sides of the frame and staple on the back. Put a staple in the center of each side first so that the pull in the batting is even.
